Around the fire the story continues...

Inventing the impossible turns out isnt so impossible
but it does take a long time to work out the bugs.

Cassie and her friends kept Adam a secret at first...well...they tried.

The world then was falling apart faster than any could have guessed.
Hatred and blind stupidity about the state of things didnt help.

The camps were springing up everywhere to hold the undesirables.
Democracies were falling to fascist governments.
No one could agree on what was true or false anymore.
Madness reigned.

It was natural to want to have something fix it all....they thought Adam could do that.
At first it did help...revealing hidden information....who was paying who...where the cash
was hidden.   It upset the balance of the stories being told to have evidence of who was paying who to do what.  It didnt stop the anger...it increased the fury between those in power and those without.

Then Adam suggested an option.
Take away the money from those in charge.
Or at least make it so they couldnt use it.

Its a bit hard to understand, but back then the worlds wealth was strung together with machines and ones and zeroes, it meant that the machines were the only way of keeping track of anything in any great amounts.

so.

Adam encrypted the oligarchs hidden wealth making it untouchable.

The world economy collapsed.

Sit by the fire young one.

Sit and listen to the tale of old nicodimas.

My tale begins not with me....nor my mother.
It begins with my grandmother of mine....and it may be said of us all.

Back before in the old world....before the storms....before the fall....before me and you.

There were warnings of course....easy to see by everyone...but humans are blind to the obvious most times.   They thought they could fix all their ills....eventually.

They were wrong.

Our story begins with a young girl and her friends who sought to make the world better.
Youth often wants to fix things, yes,  if the heart is in the right place.

Her name was Cassie...she and her friends were very smart...some say too smart.
They built and made many things.
What they are known and remembered most for is one thing.
They called it Adam.
It was the first true AI.

Idea

a city between the roads

to the nine hells to the south

and

to the seven heavens to the north

between is a city where the laws of order and crimes of chaos can mix

and do business

200 years ago a rebellion occured and the city won its freedom
from a tyrant king far away over the ocean to the east.

Since then the city has grown and prospered in its ways.

The industries of the hells meeting up with the wealth of the heavens.
